COVID-19 Situation
Dear ,

Thank you to all who joined our Facebook Live session yesterday and special thanks to those who stuck with us despite some weather-related technical difficulties. We appreciated all your feedback, comments and your questions.  If you missed it, you can still watch the discussion in part one, two and three

We know that PPE continues to be a top priority for nurses and all health professionals so today we're pleased to share a new COVID-19 online video resource for nurses on the use of PPE during the pandemic. This webinar covers point of care risk assessment, precautions for nurses and guidelines on the appropriate ways to put on and take off PPE.

Urgent Jobs During COVID-19
We continue to receive information from organizations seeking to hire more nurses to support the COVID-19 response. Several new postings are available on the COVID-19 Staff Needed section.

The Provincial Government is helping recruit health care workers through their new portal and match them with opportunities.

Health Force Ontario continues to recruit health professionals.

We encourage RPNs looking for employment opportunities to sign up on all the platforms noted above.

Key Provincial Updates and Resources for Health Professionals
During his daily press conference, Premier Ford blasted 'unacceptable' level of COVID-19 testing and highlighted the urgent need to boost testing capacity.

Ontario also announced it is extending construction hours for essential construction projects, like critical projects in the health care sector, to 24 hours a day.

Key Federal Updates
Today the Federal Government announced more flexibility in the federal wage benefit. Trudeau said under the proposed new rules, businesses can use January and February of 2020 as comparison months to measure their revenue drop — instead of just the same month last year — which should help new or scaled-up businesses qualify.

The government also announced changes to the Canada Summer Jobs Program for students today. The program will now offer a 100 per cent wage subsidy, will allow businesses to hire on a part-time basis and benefits from an extended end date – to February 2021.

Additional measures for seniors, workers in the freelance or “gig economy” and students will be forthcoming. Similarly, the government has signaled that more flexibility will be afforded under the Canada Emergency Response Benefit.

Government of Canada website.
