Member Update:
COVID-19
Dear ,

We continue to work closely with the Ontario Ministry of Health, Public Health Ontario and other health partners to monitor and respond to the latest updates regarding COVID-19.  There have been several updates over the last couple of days, including the official designation of COVID-19 as a pandemic by the World Health Organization and the announcement that schools across Ontario will be closed until April 6th. As this situation continues to evolve, we want to ensure our members have the latest  information to keep you and those in your care safe.

Key Updates and Resources for Health Professionals

Yesterday, Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health released enhanced public health measures for COVID-19 advising the people of Ontario to avoid all non-essential travel outside of Canada, recommending active screening for long term care and licensed child care and discouraging large gatherings over 250 people. This was reinforced today by the Prime Minister in a speech discouraging travel and outlining additional containment measures.

The Ontario Ministry of Health has released a new directive for Health Care Providers and Health Care Entities.

Public Health Ontario has updated their Infection Prevention and Control Recommendations for Use of Personal Protective Equipment for Care of Individuals with Suspect or Confirmed COVID-19

This week, we also saw the Ontario Ministry of Long Term Care release a memo instructing long-term care homes to begin the active screening of all visitors, resident admissions, re-admissions and returning residents.

These resources as well as several updated guidance documents are also available on our website.

For more information, we encourage you to visit the Ministry of Health, Public Health Ontario and Government of Canada websites.

Daily Reports
We continue to update our website to share latest daily reports prepared by the Emergency Operations Centre. To access the reports and other resources log into the WeRPN Members Only Section and clicking What’s New.

**Please note, these reports are intended for health professionals only and we request that you not share this with the public.

Temporary Closure of WeRPN Office
Beginning next week, the WeRPN team will be working remotely and our Mississauga offices will be closed. As concerns about the spread of COVID-19 continue to grow, we believe it’s essential to lead by example, prioritize social distancing and exercise an abundance of caution in order to reduce the risk of infection among our staff, members and other stakeholders. While we will not be working out of our physical office space, we will continue to operate as usual and respond to the emerging needs of our members and health partners. Don't hesitate to reach out if you need our support.

As always, we will continue to advocate for our members and call on the government to take the necessary steps to support the safety of patients, healthcare professionals and the public. We will continue to keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact Tiff Blair at tblair@werpn.com

Sincerely,

WeRPN Team
