Key Provincial Updates and Resources for Health Professionals
Earlier today, the Ontario government extended all emergency orders currently in force until May 29, 2020. This applies to the closure of bars and restaurants except for takeout and delivery, restrictions on social gatherings of more than five people, and staff redeployment rules for long-term care
homes and other congregate settings.
The government also committed to launching an Independent Commission into Long Term Care, beginning in September. The intent of the commission is to provide the Ontario government with guidance on how to improve the long-term care system and better protect
residents and staff from future outbreaks. In response, we issued a statement supporting this step and urging more action.
The ministry continues to work on the revision of Directive #2 and related requirements to support the gradual restoration of health services. Please note that CMOH Directive #2 is still in effect. Providers are encouraged to continue planning and further details will be provided once confirmed. The COVID-19 Patient Screening Guidance has been updated to reflect the recent changes to both the case definition and the testing guidance

Key Federal Updates Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeauannounced an expansion to the eligibility criteria for the Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA) to include many owner-operated small businesses. The changes to the CEBA will allow more Canadian small businesses to access interest free loans that will help cover operating costs during a period when revenues have been reduced, due to the pandemic.
