COVID-19 Situation
Dear ,

It's hard to believe that it was only two and half weeks ago that Ontario declared a state of emergency and our lives changed quite dramatically as we focus on social distancing to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Today, the government provided Ontarians with a full briefing on COVID-19 modelling. While the numbers are stark, this presentation does show how the public health measures put in place to date are helping to slow the spread of the virus. Watch the presentation here

For many of us, the constant news bombardment can be overwhelming. To support your self care, we want to remind you that there is support out there; whether you want to take a class, meditate or need someone to talk to.

We announced yesterday that we are launching a new series of Free On-Demand Webinars for Nurses by Nurses. These webinars are focused on Self Care and De-Escalation and that provide practical tools and tips to support you in your practice. Check out our latest one on Resilience

Urgent Jobs During COVID-19
We continue to receive information from organizations seeking to hire more nurses to support the COVID-19 response. Four new postings are available on the COVID-19 Staff Needed section.

As noted yesterday,  Health Force Ontario continues to recruit health professionals, please consider signing up if you're looking for a role.

If you know any employers who are looking for RPNs, please direct them to our website where they can sharing postings. This site is reserved for direct postings from employers. Agencies looking to recruit RPNs are invited to post to our Job Board.

Key Provincial Updates and Resources for Health Professionals
Ontario health officials warned Ontario could see between 3000 and 15,000 deaths from COVID-19.

Ontario announced it is increasing public health units' capacity to stop COVID-19 and has launched a new user-friendly online portal for the public to easily access their COVID-19 lab test results.

The government announced the further limiting of essential businesses and shutting down certain sectors of construction.

The Ministry of Health has issued a memo was along with a guidance document on the use of hotels and retirement homes provide additional information regarding the use of alternate health spaces to assist in hospital COVID-19 strategies

Public Health Ontario published two new fact sheets on Physical Distancing and Taking Care of Yourself and Each Other

Key Federal Updates
The federal government announced a $100M investment in food banks across the province.

The US President has invoked the defence protection act and ordered 3M to stop exporting masks to Canada. In response, Prime Minister Trudeau warned U.S. over restricting the trade of essential goods into Canada

The Prime Minister also announced the military will help fight outbreaks in Northern Quebec.

Daily Reports
As of 10:30AM today, Ontario reported 3,255 confirmed cases, 1,023 resolved cases, 67 deaths and 1,245 currently under investigation with lab results pending.

The Ministry is now also reporting that 462 patients are hospitalized with COVID-19, 194 are in ICU and 140 are vented. To view these additional details: click here
