Key Provincial Updates and Resources for Health Professionals
Yesterday, it was announced that the governments of Canada and Ontario are giving $656.5 million in
funding to provide critical infrastructure upgrades to protect students and staff from COVID-19 in the province's schools.
On Tuesday, the government announced Ontario is rolling out vaccines to "hot spot" regions across the province as part of Phase Two
of the COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan. This plan targets 114 highly impacted neighborhoods, as identified by postal code.
Individuals aged 18 and over in designated hot spots, as identified by postal code, are eligible for vaccination through mobile teams and pop-up clinics in targeted settings. Starting in Peel and Toronto, the province will be providing additional resources to support more mobile vaccination teams, expanding to hot spots in other public health units in the future.
On Monday, the government announced it will move elementary and secondary schools to remote learning following the April break. The announcement was made in response to the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases, the increasing risks posed to the public by COVID-19 variants, and the massive spike in hospital admissions.
Last weekend, the Ontario government announced the addition of over 700 pharmacies across the province in administering the vaccine rollout. These locations will start offering the AstraZeneca
vaccine to individuals aged 55 and older.
As of 10:30AM today, Ontario reported 403,571 confirmed cases (increase
of 4,736), 357,591 resolved cases, 7,639 deaths.
The Ministry was also reporting that 1,932 patients are hospitalized with COVID-19, 659 are in ICU and 442 are vented. To view these additional details:click here Click Here to read the latest Ministry of Health Daily Report
