COVID-19 Situation- November 5th
Dear ,

Today the government released the 2020 Budget. We were pleased to see the budget include measures to ensure Ontario can respond to the pandemic, make investments long term care and mental health, and increase opportunities for seniors to age in place. However, we were disappointed that the government did not respond to our call to enhance wages for RPNs. You can read our full statement here

Key Provincial Updates and Resources for Health Professionals
The Government Budget included a number of investments. Read the news release here. Highlights include:
  • $7.5-billion in new spending on the health sector over the next 3 years to fight COVID-19,
  • New seniors home tax credit for 25 per cent on renovations to help them stay in their homes
  • A commitment to a minimum standard of 4 hours of care for LTC residents
  • A commitment to create an Ontario “staycation” 20-per-cent rebate on tourism expenses to encourage local travel in the province
  • Financial support for parents of $200 per child under 12 to offset costs of childcare.
  • Introduction of electricity subsidy for businesses
  • Giving municipalities the option to reduce property taxes for certain small busineses.

Yesterday,
Premier Doug Ford and Minister of Infrastructure, Laurie Scott, announced over six years to improve and expand broadband and cellular access across the province.  an investment of nearly $1 billion over six years to improve and expand broadband and cellular access across the province.

Public Health Agency of Canada is now recommending Canadians choose three-layer non-medical masks with a filter layer to prevent the spread of COVID

Daily Reports
As of 10:30AM today, Ontario reported 80,690 confirmed cases (increase of 998),
69,137 resolved cases, 3,195 deaths and 41,787 currently under investigation with lab results pending.

The Ministry is also reporting that 381 patients are hospitalized with COVID-19, 86 are in ICU and 47 are vented.
