Member Update:
COVID-19 Situation- October 15th
Dear ,

Thank you to everyone who joined our Facebook Live session this past Tuesday. We appreciated your engagement and thoughtful questions. As we noted during the event, we will be returning to hosting regular Facebook Lives to give RPNs an opportunity to connect with one another, share information and ask questions. Our next event will take place in the weeks following our AGM, that is being held on October 29th.

Please look out for more information about the AGM and the next Facebook Live events in the near future.

Key Provincial Updates and Resources for Health Professionals
Today, the government announced it is working with a variety of brands to encourage more people to download the made-in-Ontario COVID Alert app and help protect people across the country from the pandemic. To support businesses large and small, the government is launching a new webpage that will provide them with the tools they need to promote the app and build on its success to-date.

The government also announced it will be adding 200 more transitional care beds. These new beds will help ease pressures on hospitals, reduce wait times for patients by getting those who no longer need to be in a hospital, but are waiting to transition to home, community or long-term care, the right level of care.

Yesterday, the government issued an updated directive to pause “short-term and temporary absences for social or personal reasons” for residents of long-term care facilities in Ottawa, Peel, and Toronto. The pause on outings will come into effect on October 16th, and will remain in place until further notice. Absences for medical or compassionate reasons will continue to be permitted.

Yesterday, Premier Ford and Minister Elliott announced that Ontario has hired 100 new contact tracers and expects to hire an additional 500 by mid-November. As a result of these new hires, who will be deployed in priority areas such as Toronto and Ottawa, confirmed cases of COVID-19 and their contacts will be reached more quickly.

Ontario Public Service staff are also volunteering for redeployment to provide surge support for contact tracing, and over 600 Statistics Canada employees have been onboarded since July to assist with contact follow-up. Including the 600 new recruits, there will be approximately 4,000 case and contact management staff in the province by mid-November.

In addition, Minister Elliott announced that Ontario has implemented a centralized Public Health Case and Contact Management (CCM) System to reduce duplication and speed up processes.

Key Federal Updates
