Key Provincial Updates and Resources for Health Professionals
Today, the Ontario government announced it would be providing municipalities and urban Indigenous community partners with an additional $150 million to continue to protect vulnerable people from COVID-19 by improving homeless shelters and creating opportunities for longer-term housing. According to the government, this investment more than doubles the funding currently flowing to local municipal service managers and urban Indigenous program administrators through the Social Services Relief Fund.

On Tuesday, Toronto City Council voted in favour of a temporary by-law that will require business or facility operators to have a policy in place to ensure masks or face coverings be worn by the ‘general public’ when entering enclosed public spaces (e.g. grocery store, gym). The by-law will also require businesses to have corresponding signage and training for all staff on the by-law. Children under two years of age and those who cannot wear for medical reasons will be exempt. Peel region also implemented a similar by law this week.
