Important updates on Ontario's response to COVID-19

Member Update:
COVID-19 Situation- May 25th
Dear ,

We hope you had a lovely weekend.

A few weeks ago, we mentioned that nursing leaders Gail Donner and Mary Wheeler would be hosting weekly Nursing Chats throughout May to provide a forum for nurses and nursing students to come together to tell their stories and talk about their experiences in this pandemic. The first two Nursing Chat are now available to watch online.

Key Provincial Updates and Resources for Health Professionals
Today, the Premier announced that thousands of people have answered the government's call to deliver food, run errands and connect with seniors and people with disabilities during COVID-19.

Over the weekend, the government issued new
direction on testing for COVID-19. Effective immediately testing is available for the following populations:

Symptomatic testing:
  • All people with at least one symptom of COVID-19, even for mild symptoms.  Please see the “Guidance for All Populations” of the Testing Guidance Update for details about the symptoms.
Asymptomatic, risk-based testing:
  • People who are concerned that they have been exposed to COVID-19.  This includes people who are contacts of or may have been exposed to a confirmed or suspected case.
  • People who are at risk of exposure to COVID-19 through their employment, including essential workers (e.g., health care workers, grocery store employees, food processing plants).

The Ministry has updated guidance for Primary Care Providers in a Community Setting.   Highlights of changes include expanded guidance for in-person care for essential visits, testing and specimen collection, and occupational health and safety.  A list of key resources is also included within the updated document.

Minor corrections were made to Directive 3 to update dates within the document.
