Important updates on Ontario's response to COVID-19
Member Update:
COVID-19 Situation- May 15th
Dear ,

As we head into the Victoria Day weekend and close out Nursing Week 2020, we want thank everyone for their messages, stories and engagement throughout the week. It's been wondering to see our RPN community come together to suport one another and celebrate our amazing profession. As your professional association, we love every opportunity to shine a light on the important work you're doing.

In addition our ongoing Nursing Week celebrations, we continued to call attention to important concerns for nurses such as pandemic pay. We've written to the government to request more clarity around for Public Health Nurse eligibility for pandemic pay.

We hope you will have a chance to unwind this weekend and spend time with family. We will be taking a little break on Monday but will be back with this newsletter on Tuesday May 19.

Key Provincial Updates and Resources for Health Professionals
The Government has updated the testing guidance to expand access to testing for Ontarians who are experiencing symptoms compatible with COVID-19.

The symptoms list has also been slightly modified to include myalgia (muscle aches) as an atypical symptom.

Key Federal Updates
Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced $450 million in funding to help Canada’s academic research community during the COVID-19 pandemic. The investment will:
  • Provide wage supports to universities and health research institutes, so they can retain research staff who are funded from industry or philanthropic sources and are unable to access some of the government’s existing COVID-19 support measures.
  • Support universities and health research institutes to maintain essential research-related activities during the crisis, and to ramp back up to full research operations once physical distancing measures are lifted.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also said the federal government will extend the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy until the end of August.
