Happy Nursing Week!!!

In all of our excitement for to kick off the week yesterday, it looks like our newsletter from didn't make it to everyone's inbox. Sorry about that! So today, we'll be resharing some of the information from yesteday's update so everyone is up to date.

Throughtout the week, we look forward to celebrating our amazing profession with all of you throughout the week. In case you missed it, be sure to check out our Nursing Week Video and a details of a special surprise we have on the way for RPN members.

Today, we continued the nursing week festivities. Our CEO took part in the inaugural Nursing Now Ontario Award ceremony to honour nursing excellent. Read about that here. our president-elect Suzanne Schell was also interviewed  about International Nursing Day. Watch that here.

Throughout the week we're encouraging all Canadians to share words of thanks with nurses like you on social media with the hashtag #ThankYouNurses.

Facebook Live- Special Nursing Week Edition
We'll be hosting another Facebook Live session TONIGHT at 8pm. This will be a special Nursing Week edition to celebrate the amazing work you're all doing across Ontario. We hope you will join us at facebook.com/wearepracticalnurses

Key Provincial Updates and Resources for Health Professionals
Today, the government announced it would be extending the Declaration of Emergency under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act until June 2.This additional time is intended ensure the province has the necessary tools and health care capacity to contain COVID-19, while gradually reopening businesses, services, and amenities safely.

Yesterday, stores began opening for curbside pickup and delivery. Employers are asked to follow safety guidelines, including Guidance on Health and Safety for Curbside Pickup and Delivery Services during COVID-19, in order to protect staff, customers, and the general public.

The Ministry has created a new Guidance document for Mental Health and Addictions Service Providers in the Community

The ministry has updated the Acute Care guidance document. Key changes include:
o   Added the outbreak definition in public hospitals and guidance for outbreak detection and management
o   Added summary of PPE precautions table

Over the weekend, the government approved an emergency order that would enable available school board employees to be voluntarily redeployed to congregate care settings during the COVID-19 pandemic, including hospitals, long-term care homes, retirement homes, and women's shelters.

Key Federal Updates
Today, the Federal government announced additional support for seniors. Those seniors who qualify for Old Age Security (OAS) will be eligible for a one-time, tax-free payment of $300, and those eligible for the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) will get an extra $200.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister announced additional support for businesses, including the creation of a Large Employer Emergency Financing Facility (LEEFF) to provide bridge financing to Canada’s largest employers, whose needs during the pandemic are not being met through conventional financing, in order to keep their operations going.

Daily Reports
As of 10:30AM today, Ontario reported 20,907 confirmed cases (increase of 361), 15,391 resolved cases, 1,725 deaths and 10,811 currently under investigation with lab results pending.

The Ministry is also reporting that 1,025 patients are hospitalized with COVID-19, 192 are in ICU and 14 are vented. To view these additional details: click here
